Halie Garcia, CPA, CIA, Principal, Moss Adams

Halie has practiced public accounting and consulting since 2006. Her expertise include internal audit, grant compliance consulting, and policy and procedure development. She has worked extensively with local and state governments, not-for-profits, higher education institutions, and Tribes throughout the western United States to reduce risks, strengthen controls, and improve performance.

Claire Hilleary, CPA, Director, Moss Adams

Claire has provided consulting and advisory services since 2008, and has extensive audit management experience focused on providing consulting, internal audit, financial statement audit, and agreed upon procedure services to tax-exempt organizations including governments and governmental entities, Tribes and Tribal entities, not-for-profits, and hospitals.

Claire is experienced in government and not-for-profit operational accounting, financial systems, Uniform Guidance, grant compliance requirements, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).

Jennifer Hickerson, Senior Manager, Moss Adams

Jennifer has worked in project and grant management since 2011. She began in public health, managing multiple grant programs to support community health. Jennifer has since entered the telecommunications industry, supporting clients in their efforts to apply for federal and state funding to expand broadband infrastructure and adoption.

After completing this training, participants will be able to identify key provisions in the law that directly impact tax-exempt organizations, including business and charitable giving provisions; explain provisions that didn’t make it into the law; state the implications of the expanded endowment tax on colleges and universities, including new thresholds and reporting considerations; discuss the extended or modified rules related to employee retention tax credits and how they could still apply to employers at tax-exempt organizations and illustrate how the Inflation Reduction Act energy-efficiency credits can benefit tax-exempt organizations.
